What is Wellness Coaching?
People come for wellness coaching when they need
to make some positive changes for health.
I offer
you a motivating environment to explore what you
want
in relation to wellness and how you might achieve your
aspirations and fulfill your needs. By assisting
you in committing to action
and by being a sounding-board to your experiences, wellness
coaching allows you the personal space and support you
need to improve
your
health and fitness.
Coaching is not ‘therapy’ by another name although
the key theoretical underpinnings, models and techniques found
their origins in the field of psychology and associated therapies
like gestalt and cognitive behavioural therapy which have broad
ranging applications.
The key difference between coaching and therapy is
that coaching does not seek to resolve the deeper
underlying issues that are
the cause of serious problems. Coaching is generally more concerned
with the practical issues of setting goals and achieving results
within specific time-scales.

Coaching is commenced on the premise that you are
self-aware and ‘whole’ and
have selected coaching because you do not require a therapeutic
intervention. It is possible for someone who has underlying issues
to experience success within a coaching context even if the underlying
issues are not resolved. If, however, you become ‘stuck’ and
the coaching programme is not achieving desired results, then a
psychological or therapeutic intervention may be necessary for
you to move forward and achieve your goals. Wellness coaching can help you with:
-
Stress reduction
- Improving body image
- Smoking cessation
- Better nutrition
- Weight management
- Increasing fitness
- Health risk management

My
body
image
was
rubbish.
I
smoked
20
a
day,
was
overweight
and
my
libido
was
zilch!
I
had
four
sessions
with
Laurel.
We
discovered
I
had
a
food
intolerance
to
wheat
which
accounted
for
me
looking
permanently
5
months
pregnant.
When
I
stopped
eating
wheat
and
snapped
to
with
my
eating
habits
in
general,
I
lost
8lb
plus
my
bloat!
My
hormones
were
rubbish
which
partially
accounted
for
my
lack
of
interest
in
sex
but
more
importantly
the
sessions
helped
me
identify
how
sexless
I
felt
about
my
body
in
general
and
how
stressed
and
guilty
I
felt
about
not
wanting
sex.
We
did
some
imagery
work
around
how
I
saw
my
body
which
helped
loads.
I
still
smoke
but
I
felt
tons
better
about
my
body
and
have
even
got
back
to
feeling
a
bit
sexy
again

- I
came to
Laurel when
I was
suffering with
stomach trouble
which was
all down
to stress
(and some
bad eating
habits) at
work and
I was
getting married
soon. I
hate making
speeches and
as the
groom I
was ********
a brick
about getting
up and
talking. After
several sessions
with Laurel,
my stomach
was much
better and
I had
gone a
long way
to getting
over my
nerves about
the speech!
