What is Personal Development Coaching?
People come for personal development coaching when they are at
a crossroads in their life and need to make some positive changes.
I offer you a motivating environment to explore what you want
in relation to personal development and how you might achieve
your
aspirations and fulfill your needs. By assisting you in committing
to action and by being a sounding-board to your experiences,
personal development coaching allows you the space and support
you need
to improve your life. Coaching is not ‘therapy’ by another
name although the key theoretical underpinnings,
models and techniques found their origins in the
field of psychology and associated therapies like
gestalt and cognitive behavioural therapy which have
broad ranging applications.

The key difference between coaching and therapy is
that coaching does not seek to resolve the deeper
underlying issues that are the cause of serious problems.
Coaching is generally more concerned with the practical
issues of setting goals and achieving results within
specific time-scales. Coaching is commenced on the premise that you are
self-aware and ‘whole’ and have selected
coaching because you do not require a therapeutic
intervention. It is possible for someone who has
underlying issues to experience success within a
coaching context even if the underlying issues are
not resolved. If, however, you become ‘stuck’ and
the coaching programme is not achieving desired results,
then a psychological or therapeutic intervention
may be necessary for you to move forward and achieve
your goals.
Personal development is the food necessary for good
mental health, and for personal growth and can help
with:
-
Time management
- Becoming more assertive
- Improving relationship skills
- Building self esteem
- Managing change
- Social shyness
- Improving creativity
- Communication skills

In
the
last
few
years,
I’ve
moved
around
the
world
with
my
husband’s
work.
Two
year’s
ago
we
returned
to
London
and
now
we
have
settled
in
Brighton.
I’ve
always
run
my
own
business
and
recently
started
up
an
interior
design
company.
With
all
the
moving
around
of
the
past
few
years,
I
can
hardly
believe
we’ve
settled
permanently
and
for
the
first
time,
I
began
feeling
really
stressed – as
if
I
couldn’t
cope
and
fit
everything
in.
I
had
four
sessions
with
Laurel
where
we
looked
at
what
was
happening
to
me
and
how
I
could
regain
a
sense
of
control.
We
looked
at
how
I
was
organizing
my
time
and
how
I
managed
change
and
through
setting
some
realistic
goals
and
using
some
cognitive
behaviourial
approaches,
I
feel
on
track
again
at
last.
Thanks! P.F.
