Meditation in Brighton
Ever wanted to learn how to meditate? If you live within the Brighton
area, I can help you to learn meditation principles. Whilst my
students are most commonly local, I regularly receive students
from across the UK.
What is meditation?
Meditation is an easy and simple way to balance
your physical, emotional, and mental states. It is easily learned
and has been used as an aid in treating stress, anxiety, pain management,
and as part of an overall treatment for other conditions including
hypertension and heart disease. Research shows that meditation
decreases the heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen consumption,
and even decreases blood pressure.
According to Joan Borysenko, Ph.D., a pioneer in the field of
mindbody medicine, meditation can be broadly defined as any activity
that keeps the attention pleasantly anchored in the present moment.
When the mind is calm and focused in the present, it is neither
reacting to memories from the past nor being preoccupied with plans
for the future, two major sources of chronic stress known to impact
health.

What can meditation help with?
- Improvement of body luster and general health. When your
mind focuses on a particular part of the body, the blood flow to
that part increases and cells receive more oxygen and other nutrients
in abundance. Today, many celebrities include meditation in their
daily regime.
- Improvement in concentration. Many athletes and sports professionals
regularly employ meditation methods. Studies have found a direct
correlation between concentration exercises (meditation) and
the performance level of sports professionals. Meditation strengthens
the mind; it comes under control and is able to provide effective
guidance to the physical body to effectively execute all its
projects.
- Increases blood flow and slows the heart rate.
- Increases exercise tolerance in heart patients.
- Leads to a deeper level of relaxation.
- Good for people with high blood pressure as it brings the BP to
normal.
- Reduces anxiety attacks by lowering the levels of blood lactate.
- Decreases muscle tension (any pain due to tension) and headaches.
- Builds self-confidence.
- It increases serotonin production which influences mood and behaviour.
Low levels of serotonin are associated with depression, obesity,
insomnia and headaches.
- Helps in chronic diseases like allergies, arthritis etc.
- Reduces PMS.
- Helps in post-operative healing.
- Enhances the immune system. Research has revealed that meditation
increases activity of 'natural-killer cells', which kill bacteria
and cancer cells.
- Also reduces activity of viruses and emotional distress.
Can anyone learn to meditate?
Most people can learn meditate. When you’re sitting outside
and just gazing up at the clouds, you’re doing a form of
meditation. When you just stare into space, you’re doing
a form of meditation.
There is no need to sit in awkward positions of 30 minutes at
a time. I can teach you a variety of easy meditation techniques
you can do anywhere, standing or sitting in a chair, for just ten
minutes.
