Diploma in Stress Management Coaching

Diploma in Stress Management Coaching with author and tutor Laurel Alexander

Stress can be good for you. It can challenge and inspire, and provoke positive life-changing events. Whenever a stressful event triggers emotional, intellectual or spiritual growth, you know it's good stress you're dealing with. But it's often not so much the event itself but your response to the event that determines whether or not you're up against good or bad stress.

What we need to do is find the optimal level of stress, which will individually motivate but not overwhelm each of us. As such, what is distressing to one may be a joy to another. And even when we agree that a particular event is distressing, we are likely to differ in our physiological and psychological responses to it.

Stress management is about attending to our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being and this course specializes in a multidisciplinary approach to stress management and prevention

HOW EX-STUDENTS ARE USING THEIR QUALIFICATION

  • I have found that since qualifying as a holistic stress management therapist, it has enhanced my massage and spiritual healing practice. It has given me a lot more knowledge and a toolbox of techniques that I can use to coach and help my clients. I have also found that the skills that I have learnt on this diploma course very beneficial for my own wellbeing. C.B.J.
  • I attended your stress management course over three years ago. Since then, I went on to study hypnotherapy after being grabbed by imagery/visualization on your course. Following this, I have gone on to study psychotherapy. Both courses I have passed with distinction. I say this to show how your encouragement and inspiration has led to other things. Without the self belief and confidence you gave me, I doubt whether I would be the qualified hypnotherapist and psychotherapist I am today. Once again, I thank you for helping me find the right path. Fran, hypnotherapist/psychotherapist
  • Since completing the Diploma I have set up my own part time practice offering stress management, career guidance & redundancy counselling. I am currently in discussions with a local beauty salon to set up a therapy referral system and I am planning on running some of my own short self development courses. I also am working on a website and monthly newsletter. I hope to develop my practice into a full-time business in the next 18 months. C.W.
  • I have been using my Stress Management Diploma to take workshops with a Depression Self Help group. Like anyone starting out, I was nervous about taking workshops for the first time, but I was reassured by Laurel and given guidance in preparing for the workshops. I have been able to use themes from the excellent course materials we were given and based on some of the essays we had to complete in order to pass the Diploma. I felt secure in the knowledge and experience I had acquired during the course and Laurel's experience as a tutor and her calm manner gave me the vital support and confidence that I needed as a new therapist. Sue
  • The stress management course has enabled me to develop my role in my present job, where I now deliver relaxation classes, stress management workshops, anxiety management workshops and assertiveness workshops. Since I completed the training, I deliver one-to-one stress management sessions to clients with various problems. B.L.
  • I completed the SM Diploma in September 2005 and since then have gained experience in using the skills/techniques we learned within a voluntary setting. I have been volunteering in a drop-in centre for young people, many of whom have suffered stressful life events and have a variety of mental/emotional health problems. I recently ran workshops for the young people using my knowledge from the Diploma course, on stress and anger management. They were keen to discuss and learn ways of understanding their emotions and responses to stressful situations and to think of ways they could behave differently and less destructively. I feel they really benefited from the breathing techniques and relaxation part of the session and some of them were very surprised and pleased by how relaxed they became. I recently gained new employment within a residential setting and am soon to be working full time within a children’s care home. After many years working in accountancy, the Diploma course has given me the necessary experience and qualifications to fulfill my dream and work in an area I feel strongly and passionately about. I am really looking forward to learning and developing more within my new job role, and to utilizing further the knowledge and skills I learned about stress management both professionally and personally. C.K.
  • Since gaining my Diploma, I have found that personally, my life has benefited by increased awareness and skills in managing stress levels. I have used my knowledge and skills in my “main job”, running stress management workshops for groups. I have also had several articles on stress management published in magazines. I have continued to offer SM for individuals. I decide to specialize in fertility and pregnancy, which were areas of particular interest and am now working for a Fertility Centre, providing group workshops and individual SM sessions for women. Karen.
